Sweaters from S.N.S. Herning.
The brand S.N.S. Herning was founded by Soren Nielsen Skyt (1899 - 1972). As a young man he made a living by selling knitted garments on the moor of central Jutland, Denmark. In the 1920′es he leaned about a way of knitting sweaters with ‘bubbles’ that could serve as insulation. Impressed by these techniques he set out to have the newly appearing knitting machines make the same. He knew that the fishermen of the Danish West Coast were in need of woollen sweaters to help them bear the rough weather at sea. In 1931 he succeeded in makign a sweater that would serve this purpose, today renowned as the Fisherman’s Sweater. To this day, S. N. S. Harning knits are crafted in the same old manner by using the original machines. Production is very limited, and as a nod to this fact, every item is signed in hand by the artisan who makes it.

the green button up braided sweater — to die for!
uh oh.. the green cable-knit is calling me!
Hi I am a bit confused since which is the original Danish sailor/seaman’s sweater.
I have been trying to find out by contacting the company I Denmark by phone (they have no phone number) and by mail but without luck.
There is another company claiming to have a patent on making these sweaters in Denmark called “Sailor”.
The “Sailor” Sweater is sold by a internet shop called www.ankerole.dk to the price of 83€ whilst the SNS counterpart easily costs 200€.
I have contacted Ankerole.dk and they confirm that the “Sailor knit is patented, and it looks nand feels like the two are identical.
What is going on?
Best regards
Simon
