Nom de Guerre - F/W 07/08 ‘Young Americans’

New York based label Nom de Guerre has released their Fall/Winter 07 collection titled “Young Americans”. The collection is based on a romanticized image of the era just before the Vietnam war, involving American classics retouched with a hint of luxury. Most of the items are undeniably nice, however, when their significant price tags are taken into account they become less attractive.

Fall/Winter 2007 is the “Young Americans” collection. The clothes are inspired by the era just before the Vietnam War, when America was still in its own youth, and the classics – blue jeans, plaid shirts, and argyle sweaters — were an inseparable part of the cultural identity. Films like “The Last Picture Show” and “The Deer Hunter” represent the moment when the fledgling teen culture went off to war and came back uncelebrated.

The collection is comprised of hunting jackets in heavy wool; militia rain jackets of waxed cotton; fine corduroy and cotton shirting; and heavy un-rinsed and washed denims in an array of blues and greys. The collection is also made of hues of greys and navy, accented by burgundy, and set off by army green. The t-shirt selection is also based on the dreams, discoveries, and concerns of America’s youth as they leave for what has since been called, America’s longest war.

More photos follow after the cut from the Nom de Guerre lookbook along with photos from the Seattle boutique Blackbird.
